Another Little Bay de Noc ice fishing weekend in the books and it was a tough time as anglers worked hard to catch fish. Fish feeding patterns have short ups and long downs during the slow times of winter, but the last couple of weeks have been exceptionally slow, with fish likely finding more palatable sources of food besides what we’re offering them. Wigglers continue to be a good bet for targeting perch, and walleye also like them for a snack. In the absence of a good bite, anglers enjoyed an incredible weekend on the Noc. Once the snow started to fall on Saturday, the bay was like a winter wonderland in a snow globe. There was minimal wind, and snowflakes fell straight down, as opposed to the usual squall pelting your face at 35 mph. With the firm drifts and the new layer of snow, it might be wise to take a shovel or winch traveling the bay. There are only 4 1/2 more weekends left of the Michigan walleye season. Now is when the big eyes really begin to stage for their spawning rituals. Make plans for your winter camping adventure in search of some Yooper Gold! The resorts around the bay have excellent accommodations, but hurry, what’s available for this seasons end fills up fast.
I’ve mentioned all the ice houses that are so enjoyable to see out there a couple posts ago. Here’s a beauty. All dressed up and ready to go!
