Wind Anyone?

On Friday late morning, we experienced complete calmness at one point on the bay—a serenity not often felt out there. It was the calm before the storm, as shortly after that brief period, winds howled beyond the typical windy day on Little Bay de Noc. If that’s your thing, the 40 mph gusts were perfect for any ice-angling wind enthusiast. Not a day wind lovers should have missed. But if you did, there was another chance for the Little Bay de Noc wind experience today. I’ve seen over half a dozen shacks flipped over and others relocated by strong gusts. The walleye bite is turning on really nicely. Pictures and reports of nice fish being caught are rolling in from anglers up and down the bay. Saturday morning started in the single digits, then topped out at 17°, with brilliant mid-afternoon sunshine. Adios to the sloppy mess, as we traded that for mostly smooth ice to travel with some occasional rock-hard lumps. Get ready for a perfect March forecast as we near the end of this hard-water walleye season with just two weeks to go. Just what we’ve been waiting for. Time to get on ’em!
