The clouds moved away, and brilliant sunshine lit up the bay today. The hard snow drifts and pressure cracks are the main obstacles providing a lumpy ride. Ice thickness of 16 inches or more has allowed trucks to move around the bay almost everywhere. Along with a few Ice Castle and Glacier drop-downs, some of my favorite vintage trailers are stopping by the shop before heading out onto the ice. Overnight ice anglers put some time into their ice home away from home, typically loaded with ice fishing gadgets and gimmicks. We’ve seen some real beauties and love them all. Not long ago, Matt Nelson of Gladstone brought in a perch that was over 15 inches and weighed almost 2 pounds. This afternoon, Mrs. Nelson, Matt’s wife, dropped in to weigh a fish. In through the bait shop door came her dad, Marty, with a big smile and a bucket holding their catch of the day. A 29” walleye weighing 8.81 lbs was in that bucket and is Miranda’s personal best. Tip-up? Nope, she jigged this eye up along with a couple others as well. Thanks for sharing your ice angling success and your memorable day!!
