The heaves are back and likely here to stay and grow. Overnight single digits pushed those pressure cracks up again. As that ice heaves up it’s leaving a void behind exposing open water right down to the bottom of the lake. Expect open areas of water along these treacherous avenues. Ramps are a must to get where you want to go if you intend on crossing them. Ice thickness is certainly gaining. Measuring 6 3/4 to 8 inches of ice above the narrows north of Gladstone to the top of the Bay.
I checked ice this afternoon accompanied by good friend and neighbor Nick Denueau and his son Austin. I think Austin enjoyed his time in the WILCraft and he helped me measure ice too.
