Fresh Snow

It’s Saturday night, and a fresh blanket of snow is falling on the Noc. We’ll see if much accumulation happens. Various forecasts predict 1-6 inches of snow through Monday. The bay is speckled with snow-blown drifts. Some drifts are quite firm, and the days of smooth travel are nearing their end. It’s not just drifts but also areas of deeper snow where anglers positioned their portable or permanent shacks and have since moved. I call these spots “shack scabs.” For example: “I was heading out kinda hot to my spot and drove across an old shack scab… nearly lost half the gear outta my sled.” Rough areas can come upon you quickly when inclement weather presents limited visibility. The walleye bite is existent, but the feeding window is short and sweet. An aggressive smack or two, and it’s done. Timing seems to be everything. Tonight’s photo is a snow-covered street shot of downtown from Blade’s Bait & Tackle southward towards the Kipling Bar.

Increasing your odds,
